La Tene I type brooch with coral inlay. An early la Tene type brooch with arched bow and returned foot. The integral spring is broken, only two coils remain and the pin is missing. Riveted to the foot is a decorative element comprising five collets which each retain their original coral inlay. The bow is of hollow U-shaped cross section and the recess is filled with a resinous substance, presumably used as glue for affixing further pieces of coral along the bow. Recovered from a river, hence the excellent preservation of the organic elements. Circa 400 BC - 300 BC. Cf. Hattatt 1446. 59mm x 10mm, 9.8g.
